the PULL of Brunei

I was on the train from Salisbury to London Waterloo just now. And I'm soooo glad I caught the 4.20pm train instead of the 4.45pm train! Why? Because...

Because there was a damn cute HK guy on board! When I saw him I went Oh My God Oh My God Oh My God. Please sit next to me! He didn't, but sit in front of me instead. Oh, my god! I nearly died. No la.

I could tell he is a tourist because he was reading this tourist guide book in Chinese called "Visit London" (rough translation). He boarded the train at Salisbury as well, which meant that he just visited Stonehenge. He was probably a year older than me. And his eyes are like...wow.

It's probably because I study at a girls' school (which deprived me of guys), I was so happy when he sat in front of me. I kept stealing glances at him. We made eye contact once, but of course I quickly looked away. He has beautiful eyes, not as beautiful as Caesar's but they are beautiful nevertheless.

I wanted to take a picture of him, but I already feel like a stalker so I didn't in the end. Regret~

Everything is going according to plan. I am now at BH, bringing you this exciting post. Tomorrow I am going to the open day of University of Leicester. I can't wait! Whoot!

P.S. Amy Toh is bringing a HK guy along to the open day. Shocking! XD

the Mock Job interview incident

Jun 24, 2009

I had no idea what I was thinking when I walked up to Mrs Ferguson on last Tuesday afternoon and told her I would like to take part in the mock job interview. She was delighted. I wrote up the CV at midnight of Friday and sent it off via e-mail. The CV was crap. You can get a preview of it here.

Basically, I forgot all about it until I woke up this morning thinking: I'm busted! It's TODAY and I didn't know a single effing thing about what a geologist do. I'm dead~ As you can see, a very cheerful start.

I spent my Chemistry lesson freaking out about the mock interview. Mine started at 3pm, so I had ample time for preparation (or so I think). Kerry Wong! left before I finished changing. I could only wave to her from my room window :(

I arrived at Brome 20 minutes early. It was scary waiting for my turn. I had tied my hair up to make it look as formal as possible and wore the same clothes I wore for sixth form pictures. Formal enough, I hope.

Then I was told to go upstairs and wait for a while by Hani. She tried to scare me, but contradict herself by saying the interviewers (a male police officer & a female intake officer) are really nice. I was still nervous, anyway.

After a while, the male interviewer called me in. I shook hands with both of them and sat down when the male interviewer invited me to. My first question is: describe yourself. I rambled some random stuff, not remembering what I said, but I do know I talked about the Japanese Club back in my PTE days in Brunei.

Everything went well until the man asked: What about art and drama? How are you like in them?

Red lights went off. Uh-oh. I told them I draw Japanese manga, and both interviewers nodded. Then I said, "As for drama, I TALK TO MYSELF."

I was dead. It was the worst thing I had ever said in any interview and yeah I had NO IDEA what made me said it. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), the interviewers took it lightly as a joke. The man even remarked, "Personal drama?" to which I laughed sheepishly. Oh where is the man hole when I need it!

Then the interview carried on as if I had never said thar stupid sentence. I was shaking (or I think I was) when I was told it was over and would I please stay outside for a while when they discuss? I waited thru a nerve-wreaking five minutes and somehow manage to compose myself before re-entering the interview room for my feedback.

They said I was good. They said I have what it takes to be a geologist. They said I think ahead. They also thought my CV is crap, but with modification it would be the best CV ever. And they didn't say a single thing about the personal drama thingy. Phew? You betcha. I thanked them for the feedback and literally ran back to Jerred. Hooray! I made a fool of myself for a while back there but it was alright. All was well with the world, once again. :)

Syazwani's current location: Brunei

Jun 23, 2009

I am so bored, bored, bored. Feeling a bit depressed but have no idea why. Might be because of his silence, might be THE SILENCE, I mean, my room is now stuck in between two empty rooms. Cool at first, not so cool after a while.

After Mahirah, Syazwani or more fondly referred to as Wani, left for Brunei as well. Whereas at first the room on the left of my room is empty, now the right is empty as well. It's a bit lonely, going down to Jerred kitchen in the evening to cook and not having both Syazwani and Mahirah there. Something is just...missing. The others probably didn't notice. Ah, well.

Monday 22nd June 2009: For our school, it was lower sixth's "Beyond the Sixth Form" Workshop Day. Attended four different workshops and by 3.30pm my head felt like it was going to burst, UCAS, university choices, personal statements, bla bla bla.

Tea for overseas students at 4pm but damn me for being an overly-punctual person - I know punctuality is good - I was down lingering near Jerred Sit at 3.40pm. Got 'caught' by Miss Findley and was told to run down to Mace to grab two tubs of ice-cream. Budget: £7. I grabbed one tub of vanilla and one tub of chocolate and came running back; the tea had started without me. Miss Findley was delighted with my choice of ice-cream (sarcasm?).

Then...I saw Syazwani! Surprise, surprise for me, but for the first time I embraced it. She said in a mock accusing way: "Why did you buy [insert the name of the hotshot ice-cream]?" so I gave a mock apology. I didn't eat even a spoonful of the ice-cream, but I do vaguely remember Nabilah holding onto the vanilla tub and happily finishing what was left of its contents off.

Afterwards was a blur of events in which I tailed Syazwani everywhere - up the stairs, down the stairs, her room, games room...I even let her 'picked' on me: CINA! Sounds like Yamin, heh?

Took lots of crazy group photos with various weird pose whist waiting for THE taxi to arrive. 15 minutes passed. Nabilah danced to Irony and So Hot. 30 minutes. Syazwani got a bit restless, called the taxi company. I found a good book in Jerred lobby. 45 minutes. Kerry came along and informed Syazwani her phone was still charging in her room. Syazwani ran up for the phone. 1 hour. Still no sight of the damn taxi. Syazwani made more phonecalls. That damn taxi was at main school. Syazwani gave instructions to get to Jerred House. 1 hour 20 minutes after the first call to the taxi company, she finally got into a solid taxi, nearly forgetting her bag in the process.

What probably happened afterwards: Syazwani caught the train to London and shopped at Westfield for less than an hour. Flew back to Brunei with her family the next morning. Thus, current location: Brunei. :)

last few hours with Mahirah

Jun 21, 2009

Mahirah is my senior at Godolphin School and she is currently on the plane back to Brunei. She is fun to hang out with, can be a bit lesbo with us (ain't us juniors ALL the same?) and one of the coolest person I ever met.

Yesterday: Saturday 20th June 2009. Was feeling bored at BH because the reception has given me a room where people left at random times and in the end, it's just me and the walls. Sounds a bit sad. Then at around 3 or 4pm someone knocked on the door and came in. It's Mahirah!

Before leaving for London I had gone over to Mahirah's room to say farewell to her because...I don't know her plans? Then she told me she'll be in BH as well and hopefully we'll meet up there. Fate as it that Mahirah share the same room as me!

When she came I set my MSN status to 'Away'. Lots to talk and laugh about! She told me about Erna making her a cake, about how Ilyaa manage to burn the middle of the scrambled eggs she was cooking...all in all, lots of fun yet random things. I told her about the 'Botox Face' song and it was fun seeing her reaction? Then we went out for dinner with friends. Mahirah had roti canai and teh tarik! Hahaha why do I remember?

Liyana (UK) was on the phone with our very own Saidi, the phone was somehow passed to me. Had no idea he's actually in Bedford not London! I told him about Yamin's awe-inspiring post - no sarcasm there - and yeah basically what to do in Brunei. Oh yeah! As for the attachment in Brunei, BSP rejected me :/ but it's good news for me, meaning I have the whole of July free! Yes!

Back to Mahirah. After dinner we went to Bayswater to watch Transformers 2! It was so damn cool! I didn't know Mahirah is a robot-scifi freak like me as well. She's also a big fan of Terminator, we watched Terminator Salvation two weeks ago and apparently Cristian Bale is her boyfriend. Haha! Anyway, Transformers 2 was really cool! And I finally get to sit next to her. Haha!

After the movies we caught a bus back to BH, I gave her some of my Vitamin C pills because she was coughing. I hope she won't be quarantined when she reached Brunei - that'll be so damn depressing.

She left when I was still asleep and I was actually woken up by her message. Of course we'll meet again - I'll march up to Warwick someday! I'll miss you!

a series of weird events

Jun 20, 2009

I am now in London for my exeat weekend and this time I only spend money on food, which is good news for my finance.

Arrived in London Waterloo at 5.30pm, I took the tube to Paddington, where Brunei Hall is. When checking in, I met Maryam and Afifah. Overheard Maryam telling Mahirah that she is going to Birmingham (I think it is Birmingham). Guy at the reception gave me a really nice clean room, sharing with three upper six girls from I-forgot-what-it-is-called school. They were really nice and friendly, but they left at 3 in the morning.

After setting up my laptop, I went out to buy food at Paddington Station. Only thing was, when I was queuing to pay for it, I realised I forgot my wallet in Brunei Hall. So I left the queue and ran back to get my wallet. Won't it be funny if I realised it only when I am at the cashier? That'll be so damn embarrassing.

When I was browsing thru books at WHSmith afterwards, this guy came up to me asking for directions to Victoria. I took out my tube map and told him. He thanked and ran off. I checked the contents of my handbag just in case.

Discovered the BoA FanClub last night. Joined it and was amazed at the amount of information available there. Played the song I Did It For Love by BoA to drown out the loud radio blaring in the room next door. It worked.

I had to literally CLEANSE my laptop because I stumbled upon this stupid website and I hate the guy involved to the core. This involves:

  • running a full antivirus check on my laptop
  • unplugging my hard disk from my laptop
  • clearing the history of my trusty Google Chrome
  • clearing my laptop history
  • another full antivirus check
  • shut down my laptop
  • superstitiously wait for 13 minutes before starting up my laptop again
  • run another antivirus check

Just another random post.

afterthoughts

Jun 10, 2009

I am typing this post before I go to bed, so pardon me if there is some confusion in my content; my mind is a bit jumbled up at the moment, screaming for rest really.

Tomorrow I am having my Core Mathematics 3 and Chemistry Unit 2 exams; strangely, I feel very calm. There is a nagging feeling at the back of my mind that I haven't revise enough, but I know that's just me being paranoid. I know my stuff. I think.

I received an email from my childhood friend Ivy Loh just now - I call her V for short - and since she knew me since primary two I thought she will know what brings about the death of me - SMS language. I used to be a user of this new breed of technology language but I strongly disapprove of it, instead opting to use T9 entry. At least I can figure out what the text is about at a glance, and not pain-strikingly trying to figure out what things like <3 and ttyl meant - I only found out about what they mean last month. Call me old-fashioned, but I believe SMS language should only be confined to the world of SMS texts (hopefully not in those directed to me though) and not used anywhere else. Ever.

After spending about 15 minutes trying to figure out what the strange mixture of small letters and numbers meant, I gave up. I really, really gave up. Into the Junk folder it goes, hopefully it won't be there tomorrow when I check my mail in the morning.

Just an afterthought - if my mind is not screaming for rest right now I might have expanded this into a newspaper article length. Maybe next time.

brand new layout

Jun 05, 2009

As you can probably see, people, my blog now have a brand new layout! It took me about 5 hours to create and it's no easy feat, trial and error for god knows how many times. Anyway, it's done and doesn't it simply look nice and simple?

My again single is however, still making its way to me in Salisbury! I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait! I can't sleep last night, it was my worst sleepless night, ever. I went to bed at 11.30pm and lay awake until about 4am. I know it's about 4am because the I saw faint light from outside the window, dawn is at about 3.45am here.

My MSN is acting up and stubbornly decide not to sign in. Oh well, could be a good thing, since I have tons to revise anyways.

Stomach grumbling, gotta grab some grub. Next time people!
